Consulting Lessons Learned 6: Sending invites

There is a simple rule in consulting: Always send invites.

What might sound like a no-brainer, actually happens really often with colleagues and clients alike.

Let me give you an example: You have a discussion with your job manager, and she proposes to continue the discussion on the next day, however she leaves it open when exactly.

In such a case, always ask her when she has time and send an outlook invite. Without an invite, chances are high, one of you will either forget about the meeting or will realize at the end of the day that there is no time left for it. The same rule applies for interactions with your client.

The outlook calendar is the ideal place to organize your workday. You will demonstrate a strong self-management by pushing for concrete time & date whenever a meeting or call is suggested and can maximize your chances that the meeting will actually take place.
